Home is the story of Cephus Miles, a farm boy in a small southern community of Crossroads, North Carolina who grows up in a society where opportunities are few and economic and social advancement meant leaving and never returning. Cephus life takes many twists and turns in the next couple decades. His grandfather and uncle die making him the sole caretaker of the land, his girlfriend Pattie Mae leaves him for a slick Boston lawyer, gets thrown in jail for draft dodging, loses his family farm to a tax collector, and ends up on the streets of the same city he placed all his hopes and dreams of prosperity in. However, after this long journey an unknown benefactor buys his family farm back in Cephus name. The prodigal son returns to Crossroads, North Carolina where he is struck with amazement at the changes his little town has taken. Reunited with Pattie Mae Cephus life is filled with love and happiness.
